About a week ago, I had the idea to post a survey that would help us identify senior, veteran and disabled neighbors that may need help with food and obtaining medication, during this quarantine. I also added options to volunteer, report someone needing help and blood donors. The response has been huge.
I am now working with the New Mexico Department of Aging and Long-Term Services, to get our amazing citizens who want to volunteer, directed to the right senior center in their area. The Department is planning on packing and delivering over 4,000 meals this next week, in the Greater Albuquerque area, alone. Many county senior centers need volunteers to help pack and deliver meal boxes to those in need for their county.
Donations are also needed! If you would like to donate food items to help, please contact the senior center closest to you, for information on where to drop it off. You can find a center in your area by following this link to download a list.
If you would like to help in your area, please contact one of the senior centers in your county. You can also email your information to: firstname.lastname@example.org Please reference Volunteer in the subject line and provide your name, address, phone number and availability.
Please note: All volunteers will require a health questionnaire, prior to being on-site and may require a background check, at the discretion of the site management. You will not be able to volunteer if you feel sick, are in a high-risk category for contracting Covid-19, have traveled across state-lines in the last 14 days, or have been around someone sick in the previous weeks.
